Bored at Night

There were few things that ticked Irene off more than being threatened, especially when the person was completely nonchalant about it. It was a bit hypocrite, as she usually did the same thing, but she really couldn't care less. Though she didn't think the witch, whoever she was, would be a problem, the mere fact that she had been used as a threat made Irene's fang start to show in anger. But she held them back. She didn't really plan on feeding on James, at least not just yet. She had to admire him, though, for his bravery. The last time she had done anything like that the guy had almost peed his pants. It sure had been fun to watch.

"A witch, really?" Irene rolled her eyes at him, chuckling slightly. "And what is she going to do, give me a migraine? That little trick might be handy, but it's not as efficient as you think."

James noticed the fangs of Irene began to elongate as she got angrier, but somehow held them back. Whether she was deciding not to kill him, or she was just hiding them until the moment that she would begin draining him of life. He wasn't sure. He listened to her as she began talking, and mocking his witch girlfriend Bonnie and her abilities, it was rather sad how a vampire had to resort to mocking in order to make a human feel anger. "We will just need to wait and see then, until next time." He told her as he pulled a small vial out of his pocket that he had saved and downed it before walking closer to the door of the Grill.

Irene was getting very annoyed really fast, and that was no good thing. But she was also getting entertained, which was good... For her. In other words, the ideas running through her head were becoming more and more cruel, showing her wicked side clearly. And her determination to continue their little meeting grew as she kept having fun, even if it was in a completely different way.

She watched as James drank something from a little vial, chuckling. If that was vervain, then he had no idea what she planned on doing, which only made it more fun for her. Irene hardly ever fed right away, as for her feeding was fun, but not as fun as the rest of her plan. And she could get blood from other sources, so that wasn't something that needed to come from him.

However, she did have to act once he started walking towards the door. She wasn't going to let him escape. Running towards the door, she wondered why he was so persistent in escaping. It was clear, at least to her eyes, that she had the upper hand.

"Vervain?" She asked, smirking. "That'll do you no good."

James could hear as her footsteps began getting closer, and closer. He stayed somewhat calm throughout, he could see a plan coming together to allow him to live from this vampire. His hand slowly went out to a table and grabbed a writing utensil that wasn't being used by the study group there, making sure Irene wasn't able to see, and continued making his way for the door. He glanced back at her as she made her way toward him, and replied. "You don't know that" He said, pulling out the same vial by his site where the pencil had been and dipped it into the remainder, waiting for her to pounce.

"I don't plan on feeding off you just yet." Irene just stood there, leaning against the doorframe casually. The Grill still had a few uncompelled people in it, and she didn't want to make a scene. The last thing she needed was to have people hunting her.

"Let's not make a scene. If we do, I may have to kill a few humans, and you wouldn't want that, would you?" She asked, glancing at the tables across the Grill with a slightly menacing look.

He glanced to her, standing sideways facing the window, keeping the pencil down at his right leg facing the bar while having his left hand relax and hang at his side as he looked into her eyes. He didn't bother replying to the feeding, she wouldn't think of it if he had the vervain already in his system. James took a quick look around the Grill to see how many 'casualties' there may be if he did decide to 'make a scene', her words. He began to walk to the door where she was leaning up against and looked right into her eyes as he stood in the middle of the doorway. "Do you want to test me? But if you do, 'make a scene', then I'm sure the other vampires in this town will want to take your head off" He said, stepping over the threshold and toward the door.

Though Irene hadn't thought of that, it really didn't matter to her. By the time news reached anyone's ears, she'd be long gone. Fleeing was one of the arts she had mastered centuries before, and one she put in practice many times. She wouldn't mind putting it to practice once more. After all, staying in the same city for too long annoyed her to no end. She needed variety.

"Not a problem, they wouldn't catch me." Irene told him, watching his every move carefully, making sure that he wasn't going to escape.

As he continued walking for the door, pencil still clenched at his side where Irene hadn't been looking, his attention went to the obnoxious vampire who seemed to think she could outrun several. James looked on the floor, and traced a line to the door to see how far before he had made it into the open and away from the situation. "Are you sure you want to go out like that? Because vampires live for a long time, eternity, you could get chased for."

Irene was starting to get suspicious of the boy. She wasn't sure if he was stalling for time or trying to talk her out of attacking him.

Then she noticed that if he gave one more step she would have no option but to at least cease him. She sighed very lowly. She had really thought that they might not have to make a scene. Cleaning up after them was a really boring job, and one she particularly hated.

"One more step, James, and those humans might not make it through the day." She warned him. "And if I were you, I would be more worried about myself because if they do come after me, I'll make sure they come after you too. And can bid goodbye to your human life."

James' hearing steered itself toward Irene's voice as she spoke, and threatened the humans sitting around the grill again, and then threatened his life, his human life. He did not know what she meant by human life, he did not have any plans on becoming a vampire, he'd rather die then choose willingly to give himself over. He glanced back into her eyes before he took a step outside of the door, and swung it open. He didn't bother saying anything to her, whether her bluff was fake or not, he didn't feel like staying in the Grill conversing with a Vampire like Irene for any longer.

Though Irene hadn't really expected James to stop walking, she was a bit frustrated when he didn't. "Why does everything have to be the hard way?" She muttered before she ceased him by the shoulder, trying to keep her grip strong so that he wouldn't run away, but not too strong. She didn't want to hurt him just yet.

He was a little surprised as he felt his shoulder being grasped from behind. It didn't seem to matter to him what Irene was going to do, or had done already, because he somehow knew that he was going to make it out of there alive. She wouldn't dare kill him in the middle of the town, with people watching. He looked over his shoulder toward her face as he took the pencil from his side and went to stab her in the side. He thought a surprise attack would have given him enough time to get away, into a house that he had owned that she could not enter. That is, if the pencil did connect. It looked like she didn't know he had it, which he thought would have given him the upper hand, but he wasn't sure.

Irene hadn't seen that one coming. She had been suspicious that he was planning something, but she hadn't expected him to attack her like that. Bitting her lip to keep herself from crying out, she forced herself to maintain her grip on James' shoulder. There was no way she was going to let him escape, not after that one.

She glanced around, looking for an employee who she had compelled, and was happy to meet the bartender's eyes. She quickly locked her eyes on his and started to compel him. "Come here and get this boy, please." She half asked half ordered the man, trying to keep the pain out of her voice.

James could tell it had hurt when it went through her vampirick flesh, the vervain on the pencil must have been stinging as it entered her bloodstream. He saw her bite her lip, the pain must have been almost too unbearable to endure, she needed some way to stop from screaming. But she didn't seem to want to let go of his shoulder. His attention went to the bartender, who didn't seem to be drinking vervain as he did what he was told and began walking over. James then pulled the pencil out of the side of Irene and went to stab her in the neck when she wasn't looking, perhaps then she may loosen her grip on his shoulder. He did not see a point to fighting a vampire, as she was stronger than him, so he tried to stick to inflicting pain to get away.

This time, Irene had been expecting the attack. She seldom fell for the same trick twice, much less when there was a burning pain at her side to remind her of the trick she had fallen for. She quickly moved her free hand to grab James' wrist before the pencil reached her neck. She didn't plan on being defeated by a human that day, especially not when said human was reacting to a fight she had started.

James had an idea that she would have reached for his hand. Although he had never really fought a vampire before, he knew the older someone is, the wiser they are. As she grabbed his wrist, he jerked his shoulder attempting to get free. Seeing as how she was concentrating on his wrist at that moment, instead of the shoulder she had been hanging on to, he thought he would have had more of a chance.

Irene felt James's shoulder start to slip from her grip, but she made no attempt to hold him. It was best for her if she had two free hands. It would give her the opportunity to take the pencil out of James' hand, which was exactly what she then began to do. She knew it would hurt a lot when her hand made contact with the pencil, as she figured that it was covered in vervain, but it was better than being stabbed by it again.

As she moved her hand to try and disarm James, Irene listened for the bartender's steps. To her great relief, he was getting closer. Irene couldn't wait to be free of the boy so that she could have some blood, possibly from the waiter, so that her wound would heal faster.

James could feel his shoulder getting released from her grip the more he pulled, but he had the problem of his wrist still being held. He couldn't seem to move while it was being grasped, and he could see the bartender coming closer and closer. But, James did the unthinkable: He applied enough pressure to his wrist against Irene's hand and could hear the crunch sound as the bone broke, the pencil had already been grabbed by the vampire, or else it would have fallen to the ground. As it broke, he could feel it slightly slipping through Irene's grasp as it was more moveable now that there was nothing keeping it 'straight'.

The pain in her side completely forgotten, as well as the newfound pain in her hand, Irene let out a groan of frustration. She would have that boy if it was the last thing she did. She would never have even imagined that someone would be desperate enough to try and do something like that. It was painful, hard and very, very risky.

She wasn't going to fool around anymore, or play nice. He had reached the end of her patience. She would knock him out if she needed to, but she would have him.

Throwing the pencil at the other side of the room so that James couldn't get it anymore, she ran after him and reached out with one hand for his throat.

As James' throat was seized by Irene, he didn't know what else he could do. He was all out of options. One thing he wasn't going to do, was die. He had hoped for a miracle to come along and save him, but no witches were located around them at that time, and his wrist was broken leaving him with only one good hand. His hand brushed up against something in his pocket, the vial of vervain that he had used on the pencil earlier and had drank, and as it moved he could still hear liquid inside. As Irene was more concentrated on him rather then his hand, he slowly moved his hand into his pocket and unscrewed the top before splashing it onto Irene's face.

Irene had no idea why she was being so unlucky that day. She never had trouble hunting, both for food and just entertainment hunt, but that day she couldn't seem to win. As she felt the vervain hitting her face, though, she knew that couldn't give up. Sooner or later, he would be either out of resources or tired, and she would finally get what she wanted. And that sooner or later could be at that moment if she just didn't let go, but she did, half because of the pain and half because of the surprise.

But the game wasn't over, at least not from her side. If James wanted to end the game, she had nothing against it. The wound at her side was almost closed, and she could feel her vervain burns healing. She had seldom been so thankful about making sure she always had a reasonable amount of blood in the mornings.

With a frustrated and infuriated sigh, she continued her chase, once again going for his throat.

James began backing away from her as she had her arm out, hand reaching for his throat, again. But there wasn't really anywhere for him to run to, it was clear he wasn't going to get away from her, not like he was then. As her hand grasped his throat, he proceeded to finally ask. "What do you want from me?!" Rather loudly to see if anybody around would see, and waited for a reply.

James' question startled her. What did she want from him? She wasn't sure. She had had several ideas, but all she knew for sure was that she wasn't going to carry out the most wicked ones. Their struggle had made her respect him in a way she respected very few people, all of them vampires but him. She had never seen such a brave and smart human, not one who could carry on such an interesting conversation.

"I must admit that I don't know anymore." She replied, her ears scanning the room for any sign of someone coming towards them. She continued to reach out for his throat until there was just an inch between her hand and his neck. One inch for her to have what she wanted. "But I know that I'm not going to let you go."

He didn't bother moving. He didn't really see a point in it. If she was going to kill him, she would have done it already. Her reply to his question didn't make him feel any easier as her hand came closer to his throat. "So why do this, if you don't have a reason for doing it" He said, eying up her nails as they began to dig into his neck.

Once again, James' question startled her, and, once again, she didn't know how to answer. She was driven by anger, frustration and instinct. She didn't have a logical answer for his question. But that didn't keep her from closing her hand around his neck. She didn't want to kill him or hurt him, so she only held it hard enough to have a good grip on him.

"Because it's a challenge, I guess." She replied. "And because I was bored."
