The year is 2010, Klaus has just been neutralized by Bonnie. Elena wakes up in the hospital the next morning after she collapses on the floor from a bleeding nose. Meredith tells Jeremy that her injuries weren’t severe and that she’d be fine so she is taken home. Meanwhile, Alaric has told the council about the vampires in the town so Carol and Elizabeth give Caroline and Tyler fake IDs to get out of town. Alaric finds out where Damon and Rebekah are with Klaus’ body and he stakes him. All the vampires in Mystic Falls prepare for death, as Klaus is allegedly the sire of their bloodline, but they don’t die. Matt drugs Elena and attempts to drive her out of Mystic Falls. Out of revenge, Rebekah runs them off Wickery Bridge and Elena drowns. Alaric, who was linked to Elena by the Original Witch, dies with her. At the hospital, Elena awakens in transition to vampirism. Meredith lied to Jeremy to spare him pain, but she used Damon’s blood to heal her and it was still in her system when she died.
